LIVE ACOUSTIC FOLK MUSIC FOR LIVE ADULTS!
At o kafes! we love music. Our venue, which can hold 93 people, officially, is quickly becoming one of the premier locales for the nation's best acoustic singer/songwriters to showcase their talents. Located in the historic Martin Biscuit Building, o kafes! sports high ceilings, an abundance of windows, and a wide-open space. Along with coffee that is roasted on site, o kafes! also carries an array of fine beers and wines. Come imbibe your favorite beverage and soak up the harmonies. Music keeps Birmingham awake!
Typically doors open at 8:00, shows start at 8:30 or 9:00.
OXY MORONS: Thursday, March 11, 6:30 pm. Please plan on tipping the band!
"Third Thursdays" with the Oxymorons has turned into "Second Thursdays." The name and time have changed, but the Americana-Roots music is every bit as enjoyable. Come grab some supper and beer or wine and kick back to the music of Stephen, Joe, and Jamie. And who are they, exactly? Well, the name of the band says it all.

MISS TESS AND THE BON TON PARADE: Saturday, March 13, 9 pm. $10 cover.
Miss Tess and her crew appear at first glance to be clones of the immensely entertaining and talented Christabel and the Jons, who played at our venue several months ago, but they bring their own flare, talent, and style to the table. At any rate, who cares if they are similar? Both bands are pure fun.
Of their new CD release, "Darling, Oh Darling," Brian Tucker of
Bootleg Magazine writes:
"Miss Tess has grace, and the chops, to deliver an album of new material brimming with ‘30’s era jazz and swing or bouncing energy of the 1950’s. Tess sounds transported from decades past without ending up a caricature. She’s sultry, sassy, fun, and all heart. While steeped in the era that spawned Fats Waller or Bessie Smith she’s completely her own voice, capable of stepping outside traditional sounds altogether.
She’s grown leaps and bounds since the 2007’s Modern Vintage - her voice warmer and more lighthearted, and variety on Darling, Oh Darling is abundant. All of the songs are written by Miss Tess, no covers or standards here, the material ranging from steamy jazz to swing and country rave-ups. Her voice is what the word romantic means; the sound easily a soundtrack to relationships at their best or a little rocky. It’s uplifting and caressing; imagine Sade or Linda Ronstadt performing in the Jazz Age.. The band is tight, the playing sharp and steadfastly inspired."

OPEN MIC: Saturday, April 10, 8:00 pm. $2 cover. Please contact Kristin Stewart (
k.stewartmusic@yahoo.com) if you want to secure a slot to play. Three songs each, no more than three on stage at a time. Last month, slots were snapped up quickly, so don't delay!
JENNIFER DANIELS: Saturday, April 17, 8:30 pm. $10 cover.
Jennifer returns to o kafes! for her second concert. Her powerful voice and catchy brand of indie folk rock shine on such songs as "Stay" (watch the live performance at the Kentucky Theater) and "You Should Love Me" (watch her perform it for TBS Storyline). Our own WBHM's Michael Krall, on his blog, "Music You Need to Hear," describes her live performance as, "the best $10 I've ever spent on a concert in a long time." We couldn't agree more.

SUE SCROFA: Saturday, May 8, 8 pm. $7 cover. CD release party! With special guests
Real Frogs (John Paul Foster) and
Becca Loebe! The Sue Scrofa Band opened for Tony Furtado back in December and the audience gave them a standing ovation. Now they're back for the release of their newest album. You're going to love what you hear!
CHRIS O'BRIEN: May 15th, 9 pm. $10.00 cover.
Chris is on a CD Release tour of his just-released CD "Little Red." Check it out on iTunes or pick up one at the show. What a masterpiece from this amazing singer/songwriter!
